I practice Hypnotherapy in Edinburgh. Hypnotherapy means the use of suggestion to help you with a problem, by giving suggestions to the unconscious mind while you are in a more relaxed state than usual.
In this relaxed “can’t be bothered state”, the mind is more receptive, especially the unconscious mind which is more available. The feeling of hypnosis is lovely – just like the feeling you experience first thing in the morning before you get up and out of bed, that “I’ll-do-it-in-a-minute” feeling, where you are alert and awake, but resting.
There is a wealth of buried experience in the memories of our childhood and during our years into maturity. What child hasn’t felt misunderstood in spite of the best intentions of well-meaning parents, carers, siblings, friends or teachers? Even before we learn to speak, there are real or imagined slights or punishments which are embedded in our mind even without language. There may have been experiences, perhaps long forgotten, which have led to a fear or phobia in later life or which has led to a habit which we want to break.
Hypnotherapy can help release many deep seated issues and problems.
Hypnotherapy is an effective form of therapy employing hypnosis to bring about a beneficial change in behaviour, emotions and thoughts. In a state of deep relaxation, suggestions are given that `reprogramme' the unconscious and conscious mind.
It's a very relaxed state, and rather like day-dreaming. You are aware, yet not aware, of things going on around you.
Usually people have full memory of the events afterwards. A few people do not recall what happened, or recall some of what happened.
At all times the client is in full control of the session and is never asked to do anything against their will. They can open their eyes at any stage. This is not like stage hypnosis. I know that this can be a fear which prevents a few clients from totally relaxing .
Hypnosis is a natural state. Only resistance will prevent the experience (5% fall into this category). It can be overcome by practice and trust.
Your first session may last between 1 and 2 hours and will include a full assessment of your current situation. Therapy may include teaching self-hypnosis, relaxation techniques, EFT, NLP, Life-coaching.
Many phobias, for example, can be treated in one or two sessions. Problems which are more complex may need a number of sessions - perhaps eight to twelve.
Hypnotherapy can assist with a wide range of topics. These include :
If your problem is physical in origin please see your medical practitioner.
